![]() by: Jay Johnson After a number of suggestions, I am allowing for more than one Banyon Buzz article submission per month (starting this month). It will permit more authors to submit a number of helpful tips, notices and suggestions to our audience. Thank you all for your support over the past 14 issues/months. P.S. I will be adding the articles for this issue by Friday May 6th...sorry for the delay during the transition. Each article will be identified by name/title and author. Download: 10 Ways to Promote Your Book... ![]() By: Francine Silverman This is from the chapter on Pre-Publication Promotion: More than two months before her first poetry book, True Reflections (PublishAmerica 2004), was published, Michelle Ailene True began preparing to promote it with media kits to newspapers, radio and television. The Illinois author also targeted student-run radio stations throughout Illinois and the U.S. She contacted bookstores in the Chicago and Milwaukee metropolitan areas that host poetry readings and book signings and distributed bookmarks, business cards, and flyers. Within no time, she was interviewed on Vantage Point, a weekly radio talk show that aired Sunday, September 26, 2004 on WTMX-FM (101.9 in Chicago) about (1) True Reflections and forthcoming books, (2) True Poet Magazine (an ezine she operates), (3) Poetic License (a writer’s group she runs) and (4) her work mentoring local high school students interested in a writing career. “Of course, I am going to use that interview as a lead when I send my media kit to other local radio and television talk shows,” she vowed. www.michelleailenetrue.com. This was my joy, one that I realize and now acknowledge to be my personal calling. Working with girls in the Caribbean and the United States gave me much to consider writing about, and many success stories to celebrate. Most recently, I voluntarily conducted group-counseling sessions for woman at a Florida homeless shelter. None of these abstract experiences can prepare you for writing a self-help book until you are faced with a few life challenges of your own. | Return Home | The BOOK DOCTOR | The BANYON NETWORK | The Banyon Buzz Newsletters | The Aton Project Newsletters | Contact Us | |
