![]() By: Jay Johnson What does that mean? I am only addressing the "self-published" segment of the writing world, not authors signed by a major publisher. So, I'll give you an answer based on my limited publishing experience. The first place I looked were the dollars, i.e., I found that authors were being made to feel as if referring their readers to the major book-selling outlets somehow gave them more exposure. What do you think? In fact, the only reason an author's reader would usually know that a book is available at one of these "mega-sites" is because the author told them or advertised as such. Why do so? Beats me, especially when there are alternatives. This issue needs discussing and that is the purpose of this new newsletter. I'd love to hear from some authors, especially their experiences with the selling of their books, i.e., advertising, exposure to varied audiences, etc. It is my opinion that many authors are not particularly interested in the marketing side of their books, yet each would suggest that they want their books sold. My aim is to find a happy medium for those unwilling to explore the various avenues of marketing and those unaware of ways to gain an advantage through marketing. My goal is to create a central portal for willing authors to be seen and have an ability to sell their books. I'd love to hear from you. The POD solution? There are positives and negatives to be considered. I think the Print-On-Demand industry serves a good purpose; however, it doesn't address the many issues authors face after they have their books in hand. I believe I've found a happy medium.
